Please read all of the below information before submitting your application:
The application for YSPA 2018 is due by midnight EST on Sunday, March 4, 2018. You may start your application in the SmarterSelect app, save your work, and continue your application at a later time. Be sure to hit “Submit” before the deadline. Once the deadline has passed, you may not update your application.
You must include a current school transcript (including your grades through Fall 2017) with your application. If your school will not give you a copy of your transcript directly, you can ask them to mail the transcript directly to us via the address given in the application.
You must have two teachers write letters of recommendation for you. The recommenders will need your full name and date of birth. You must refer your recommenders to the form posted at http://yspa.yale.edu/recommendation in order to submit a recommendation. Letters of recommendation will be accepted up until midnight EST on Sunday, March 11, 2018. Be sure to give your teachers plenty of time to fill out the form (we recommend asking your teachers at least two weeks before the deadline).
Students must be rising juniors or seniors in order to attend, and you must apply when you are a high school sophomore or junior.
Students should be available for the two week online directed self-study program starting Monday, June 25, 2018. This online study program will require about 2-4 hours per day of study time, through July 6, and you will need internet access most of these days in order to participate in online discussion sections.
The on-campus program will be from July 8 through August 5, 2018. Students should plan to arrive on July 8 by 4pm and leave by noon on Sunday, August 5.
International students are welcome to apply, but applicants must be proficient in English.
Members of under-represented minority groups are especially encouraged to apply.
Full tuition (including academic tuition, room and board, field trips, projects costs, instructional materials, computer fees, etc., but not including travel to and from the program, health insurance, or incidental expenses) for 2018 is $5250.
Need-based financial aid of up to 50% of the full tuition is available for those who are accepted to the program. Financial aid is also available to international applicants. The application for financial aid will be sent to accepted students who have indicated on their application that they plan to apply for financial aid.
Admissions decisions (of “Awarded”, “Alternate”, or “Declined”) are expected to go out around April 7, 2018 by e-mail and via the SmarterSelect application management tool. Applicants who have received an offer of admission will have until April 22, 2018 to accept or reject this offer.
We appreciate being notified if you intend to withdraw your application so that we can remove it from consideration as soon as possible.
If you are admitted, a deposit of $1000 is required by April 27, 2018 to secure your spot. The balance of the tuition is due by Friday, June 8, 2018. Your offer of admission may be withdrawn and you may forfeit your deposit or your full tuition if it is found that you falsified any aspect of your application. In the unlikely event that the program is canceled, you will receive a full tuition reimbursement, including the deposit.
